Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressors Review: Comfort Wins

There is a lot of gear in this space that looks good on a product page but does not stay in the rotation once range days get long. The Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressors are not that. These have become my go-to over-the-ear option, and the biggest reason is simple: the gel ear pads. Between the comfort, the seal, and the all-day wearability, these are the earmuffs I keep reaching for when it is time to load up and head to the range.
What the Apollo ear pro brings to the table
The Apollo is an electronic earmuff built to do the things most shooters actually need. It offers 24 dB NRR passive sound dampening, active electronic sound compression, amplification of environmental sounds and voices, and it runs on 2 AAA batteries. Savior also lists a compact collapsible design, dual omnidirectional microphones, high dynamic range speakers, and frequency-tuned drivers as part of the package. Collapsed size is listed at 5.5” x 5.5” x 4”.
That matters because good ear pro is not just about blocking noise. It is about still being able to hear range commands, talk with your people, and stay aware of what is happening around you without getting blasted by every shot. Brownells describes the Apollo’s function plainly: voices and environmental sounds are amplified, while loud harmful noises are instantly compressed.

The real standout: gel ear pads
For me, this is the whole story.
The Apollo ear muffs come with adaptive cool gel ear pads, and that is the reason they have become my preferred over-ear hearing protection. Brownells highlights the gel ear pads and padded mesh headband for all-day comfort, while Savior says the cool gel pads help provide both comfort and a better seal from noise. That lines up with what I want out of over-ear protection: something that does not feel annoying halfway through a long training day and still gives you confidence in the seal.
A lot of muffs technically work. Fewer of them stay comfortable when the day gets hot, when you are moving a lot, or when you are wearing them longer than expected. The Apollo earns points here because comfort is not treated like an afterthought.
Color options that let you have some personality
One thing Savior does better than a lot of brands is letting you have some fun with your gear. The Apollo line comes in a wide range of colors. On Brownells, the available color list includes Black, Green, Purple, Orange, Blue, Red, Peach, Gray, and Tan. Savior’s own product page shows an even broader Apollo lineup including Hi-Viz Orange, Obsidian Black, SW Gray, Midnight Blue, Prison Pink, Coral Peach, OD Green, Carmine Red, FDE Tan, Royal Purple, Bright Teal, Electric Yellow, Chrome, Black Chrome, and Rose Gold.
That is something I genuinely like. Too much range gear lives in the world of only black, FDE, and maybe OD green if the company is feeling adventurous. The Apollo gives people options to express themselves while still taking hearing protection seriously. Safe does not have to mean boring.
A quick word on Savior Equipment
Savior Equipment positions itself around practical innovation and value. On its About page, the company says it focuses on listening to customer feedback, updating existing designs, and building quality gear at a price point that “won’t break the bank.” Savior also says it backs its products with a Lifetime Warranty broadly across its gear, while the Apollo electronic hearing protection specifically carries a 3-year Savior Electronic Warranty.
That brand approach makes sense when you look at this product. The Apollo does not feel like it is trying to be flashy just for the sake of it. It feels like Savior tried to build something useful, comfortable, and approachable for real shooters.
Why I keep buying from Brownells
I have said this before and I will keep saying it: Brownells remains one of my go-to places for guns, gear, parts, and range essentials. Whether I am looking for firearms, hearing protection, optics, ammo, upgrade parts, or general competition support gear, Brownells continues to be one of the easiest places for me to source what I need in one place. Their catalog spans guns, gun parts, magazines, ammunition, and safety gear, which is a big reason they stay in my regular rotation.
That matters to me because convenience counts. When you are balancing range time, content creation, competitions, testing gear, and normal life, there is real value in having a retailer you trust. Brownells has continued to be that place for me, and the Apollo muffs fitting into that ecosystem is part of the appeal.
Final thoughts
The Savior Equipment Apollo Electronic Sound Suppressors hit a sweet spot for shooters who want reliable electronic ear pro, real comfort, and a little more personality than the usual options. The 24 dB NRR, active sound compression, compact folding design, included patches, and broad color selection are all nice touches. But for me, the deciding factor is still the same: the gel ear pads. That is what makes these my go-to over-the-ear option.
If you want a pair for your own range bag, you can find them at Brownells.
